Multiple Los Angeles area newspapers reported on Thursday that Coach Al Golden was in LA on Wednesday interviewing for the head coaching job at UCLA. The interview was reportedly his second with UCLA administrators.

Multiple Los Angeles area newspapers reported on Thursday that Coach Al Golden was in LA on Wednesday interviewing for the head coaching job at UCLA. The interview was reportedly his second with UCLA administrators.

OwlsDaily.com has not yet spoken with Golden, who just completed his second year at Temple. An athletic department staff member reported on Thursday morning that nobody in the Temple administration would have any immediate comment on the situation.

Though he’s never had a coaching job away from the East Coast, Golden has a connection with UCLA Chancellor Gene Block, who was Provost at Virginia when Golden was there as the defensive coordinator.

The last time Golden worked on the West Coast was right before he was cut by the San Diego Chargers in 1993.

UCLA fired head coach Karl Dorrell in early December. Former UCLA quarterback Rick Neuheisel is reportedly a top candidate for the job. Neuheisel also has been interviewed twice, according to the same LA sources.

The LA Times reported on Thursday that Golden and Neuheisel are the only candidates that have been interviewed by Block. Previously, they met with UCLA athletic director Dan Guerrero. Guerrero has also interviewed Philadelphia Eagles assistant coach John Harbaugh, Tennessee Titans assistant coach Norm Chow, and UCLA interim coach DeWayne Walker, who was Dorrell’s defensive coordinator.

The UCLA coaching search could reportedly be wrapped up by the end of next week.
