The Temple Men’s Varsity Eight won its semifinal heat at the Dad Vail Regatta on Saturday morning and will battle defending champ Marietta College and four others in the championship race late in the afternoon.

The Owls rowed the 2,00-meter Schuylkill River course in 5:44.67, nearly two seconds faster than second place finisher Jacksonville, which also earned a berth in the finals. Marietta won the second semifinal race, one second ahead of Army, while Purdue and Florida Tech secured the last two championship spots with a 1-2 finish in the third semifinal.

Temple is looking to reclaim the Dad Vail Trophy for the first time since 2004.
