Stone Sidelined

Sophomore forward Jasmine Stone will miss at least the first 10 games of the 2007-08 campaign for failing to meet NCAA eligibility requirements, a source at Temple confirmed on Thursday. Stone might be able to rejoin the Owls at the end of the fall semester.

An earlier report from a Temple official that Stone had been suspended for the entire season for violating team rules was erroneous.

One of the highest-rated recruits in the history of the Temple women’s basketball program, Stone played regularly off the bench as a freshman last season. She averaged 3.1 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.

The 6-3 forward figured to play a bigger role for the Owls this year. She is the tallest roster returnee, though Coach Dawn Staley noted this offseason that she could help the Owls on the perimeter, too.

Staley’s squad is less than two weeks away from the start of preseason practice.
