Temple-bound wide receiver Deven Baker
of Bound Brook (N.J.) High School opened his senior year in style, scoring three long touchdowns to lead the Crusaders to a 39-22 victory over Bernards High School last weekend.
Baker scored on a 95-yard run and an 85-yard kickoff return and turned a screen pass into a 65-yard touchdown in one of the Garden State's top opening week performances.
Temple-bound athlete Kevin Kroboth
of Nazareth (Pa.) High School also made a big play in his senior debut, scoring on a 43-yard run to account for his team's only score in a 23-6 loss to Pleasant Valley on Aug. 31. But Kroboth, Nazareth's starting quarterback, took a helmet to his left knee in the contest and missed last weekend's 47-6 loss to Parkland.
Kroboth is projected to play wide receiver for the Owls.
So is Cedric Hammond
of St. John's Collegiate High School in Washington, D.C., who got into the scoring column with a 21-yard touchdown catch in a 32-14 victory over Calvert Hall last weekend. Hammond also caught a 27-yard pass in the contest.
Calvert Hall features twin offensive linemen Sean Boyle
and Patrick Boyle, both of whom have received scholarship offers from Temple.
Owl commitment Malcolm Williams
has been playing quarterback and slotback at Reading (Pa.) High School, which opened the season with two losses. In the opener, Williams caught five passes for 31 yards. In the second game, he had 10 carries for 53 yards. So far he's completed 2 of 4 passes for 24 yards.
Statistically, there's nothing to report on Temple's other early commitments – Geoffrey Prather
(LB), Keith Baker
(LB), Wayne Tribue
(OL), Ryan Murray
(OL), and Clem Johnson
OwlsDaily.com will follow up on their early-season exploits next week.
