Fan favorite Anthony Ivory is leaving the Temple basketball team and will transfer to Bowie State, according to two sources at the Division II school located in Bowie, Md.The 6-10, 350-pound center received his release from the Owls in July, and took a few weeks to pick a new school. Bowie State puts Ivory close to his Washington, D.C., home.
Rated among the Top 100 players in the nation as a high school senior, Ivory originally signed with Providence before going the prep school route. He signed with Temple in the summer of 2005 and started the first four games for Coach John Chaney’s team as a freshman. But weight problems led to shin splints, which led to Ivory missing nearly two months of action.
As a sophomore, Ivory improved his conditioning, but not enough to crack Coach Fran Dunphy’s rotation. He played just 17 minutes during the 2006-07 campaign, and that didn’t figure to change with the Owls adding three freshmen to the frontcourt this season.
Ivory totaled 24 points in his two-year Temple career.
In Bowie State, Ivory may have found the perfect fit. The Bulldogs, perennial contenders in the CIAA, are looking to replace starting center Cory Scott from last year’s squad. Scott measures in at 6-9, 290 pounds.
With Ivory’s departure, the Owls will have another scholarship available for the current recruiting season. Presently, Temple has room to add three scholarship players for the 2008-09 campaign.
